I have used many mediums and techniques. Oil and acrylic painting, printmaking, ceramics, charcoal, ink and graphite drawings, sculpture and multi-media wall pieces.
Recently , I have been using acrylic paint on canvas and producing a series of paintings based on the 'Tesseract Hypercube'. I change and modify the grid and use transparency and translucency to enhance the effects.
To paint these latest paintings, I have revisited my early( 1972) painting system ( which I recently discovered was an algorithm)that I developed because at the time there weren't any personal computers. I've developed a color system where all hues and tone values are predetermined by symbols on a drawing. This system is akin to using music notes when writing music to be played . When I compose a painting, I only have a vague idea what they will look like. The finished painting is always a surprise. These recent paintings are pretty much predetermined, however, I'm always going back and tweaking sections afterwards. There are over 1500facets in each painting where I individually mix colors, cross check with my custom color chart, then tape and paint them.
Like George Ohr ,my ceramic sculptures are purposely nonfunctional . With these sculptures ,I take a vessel , cut it up, introduce planes, and show many views of one or two vessels at the same time. ( similar to cubism and the many views of a cube in the hypercube). These ceramic sculptures exhibit my inspiration and interest in cubism. My first ceramic sculptures were glazed. Later, I began to burnish the pieces like the Navaho ceramic pots I saw in Santa Fe, NM. My most recent ceramic sculptures are painted. This was the result of not having a kiln to fire the glaze. I think this was a "Happy" situation because I don't think I would have made the move to paint except for the fact that I had many unglazed ceramic pieces that were just crying to be worked on.
I have been making art for over fifty years. The artwork contained in my portfolio are some examples from this work.

What inspired me to paint these geometric paintings was my fascination with the tesseract Hypercube. The beauty of the hypercube is that when looked at, you can see all six sides of the cube at one time. In 1972, there were not any computers that I could use to help me figure out how to paint the illusion of the cube's six sides using the illusion of transparency. So I developed a color system that I would use to make my paintings. Recently, I found out that I had created an algorithm. So, I was using an algorithm to make my paintings before recent artists began creating generative art.
